History

Our story … We’ve worked in this industry for a long time and like to think we know it rather well. Originally established as a Demolition business by Adam’s Grandfather, George Burgess after he left the Navy in 1946, Burgess & Sons as it was first known has always been a family affair. George was joined by his two sons Mike and Bob when they left school. Specialising in Demolition, they soon realised the value of reclaimed materials.

Following in the family footsteps, Adam joined the firm after leaving the Royal Green Jackets in 2002. Sadly at this time both George and Mike had passed away and Adam took the opportunity to ‘take the helm’ and with his father Bob they decided to revamp the business concentrating on the reclaim aspect and Burgess Reclamation was created.

In 2009 the yard was moved from its original location in London Road, Bicester to the Old Volvo Garage in Souldern, Oxon increasing the yard in size and allowing Adam to increase the potential of the business, whilst keeping the traditions of a family firm. Adam’s dad Bob remains a constant support dividing his time working alongside Adam and taking long cruises abroad now he has semi-retired. However as the yard has increased in size and it’s popularity as a reclaim yard has grown, Bob says he has never worked so hard!

Whilst much of the reclaimed items are found locally and nationwide, Adam also created enough contacts during his travels far and wide with the Army to enable him to source the interesting, eclectic, unique furniture and reclaimed items we are able to offer you today.
