Jericho, Oxford project nearing completion.
Over the past few months we have been supplying a property in Jericho, Oxford.
The owner has kindly let us take pictures of our stock in situ.
When we first met the owner in our yard we realised this was a big job, the building was a shell inside. We supplied our pine floorboards throughout the house and with the boards already plained it made it easy for them to be laid.
There were three fireplaces in the house with no fires in and we quickly identified some in the yard that fitted well.
One of the biggest problems renovating old houses is that the doors are often very odd sizes and this was the case in Jericho. Although our stock of doors caters for most sizes, we needed to have some made bespoke out of reclaimed timber.
We can make any bespoke doors in any size or design.
Item of the week
From now on we will be doing a feature on the website. We will choose an item from the yard and provide you with various pieces of information, photos and funny stories about the item.
To start us off with this feature we will do Cast iron radiators – this week we have had a delivery of 550 so it seems a good item to start with.
Cast iron radiators
During the victorian era, they really came to the fore, which went hand in hand with the use of iron as a decorative feature as seen in many homes of the period, but still only in the wealthier ones.
Central heating wasn’t installed until the 1950’s and even still was seen as a luxury.
Cast iron radiators are still one of the more obvious choices for heating and today sees a return to popularity.
At Burgess reclamation we pressure test the radiators and offer a bespoke service where we can make a radiator to your size, we can also work out the size and amount of radiators required to heat a room for you.

Interesting fact!
Joseph Nason, a pioneering American, came up with the first freestanding design during the 1860’s. It had a steam system with a single pipe connecting the radiator to a boiler. As the water got hotter, steam rose to fill the radiator and transferred the heat to fill the room.

A busy week of stock arriving in the yard – we have had over 550 Cast iron radiators in and are now ready for sale.
We have also been busy between Christmas and new year buying stock which is now all in and displayed and will be on the website, latest stock items include a nice Hornton stone fireplace ,Hornton flagstone and 10,000 handmade bricks from a local school.

Happy new year to all!!
We will be closed this coming Tuesday 3rd 2012 due to a large delivery due in, we will be in the yard and answering the phone and emails but will have the gate closed.
If you require anything urgent we will be able to help otherwise we will be working normal hours from Wednesday 4th January 2012.

Christmas is coming! We still have some Non drop Christmas trees left for sale…….

Outlook for 2012……….
We plan on having the kitchen area built towards the middle of the year which will be farmhouse style kitchens, butchers blocks etc, which we will now be selling this will tie in with a new door display area being built.
Due to the success of opening Sundays this December we will plan to open on Sundays in 2012 (we do not know at what date this will start – it will be posted as soon as we know)
We will be holding an open day like we did from the Bicester site, this will be a day with a free BBQ and drinks and discounted prices on some items, this also gives us a good chance to get the yard fully stocked.
The fireplace showroom will also have a ‘spruce’ up in the new year.
That gives you an idea of what we have planned for the new year, We would also like to thank every person who has been into our yard in 2011, and made this a great year for us.

Since our last post we have been busy setting the yard out and it is coming on well.
We have had a fireplace surround built for our stove (please see in Latest Stock page).
We also have sales counter that used to be the magistrate court in Martock.
Stock wise we have had a container of tumbled limestone in which is always a popular item and has sold well, the container of slate flooring has arrived again selling well.
We have the Christmas trees arriving on the 1st of December so we can take orders now please call the office 01869 346347.
During December we will be open on Sundays 8am to 4pm.
